Thanks to its comfortable temperatures and sunny weather, October is one of the best months of the year to visit Laos. You can visit all the outdoor attractions in most parts of the country in October, including temples, national parks, waterfalls, and more. Here are some of the recommended places to visit if you are going to Laos in October.
1. Wat Si Muang Temple, Vientiane
The capital of Laos, Vientiane, is not as busy and bustling as other capital cities, but Vientiane is a place that deserves your time and attention to see its rich array of historical and cultural relics. There are many gorgeous Buddhist temples, pagodas, and other historical sites waiting for you to explore. One of the places that you can't miss is Wat Si Muang Temple. It is a small Buddhist temple, but beautiful and full of local community life. You can see many local people coming to worship the Buddha in his various manifestations and to elicit blessings by offering candles and flowers.
2. The COPE Visitor Center, Vientiane
After visiting Wat Si Muang Temple, you could walk a few minutes to the COPE (Cooperative Orthotic & Prosthetic Enterprise) Visitor Center. The center is an important exhibition to educate people about the injuries and harm brought to people by landmines ad war. The COPE Center helps disabled people who were harmed by bombing in Laos by offering them free equipment or prosthesis. There you can learn more about the history of the Vietnam War through some short movies and historical documents in the exhibition rooms. It is free to enter the center, but it would be much appreciated if you were to donate some money to support their work.
3. MandaLao Elephant Conservation, Luang Prabang
Thanks to its warm temperatures and dry weather, October is a good time to visit the MandaLao Elephant Conservation in Luang Prabang. If you are traveling in a family group with kids, it can be a particularly enjoyable chance to interact with these lovely animals. A fun activity for kids is to run through the jungle in search of elephants in the wild. The sanctuary itself is a beautiful nature park where you can enjoy some of Laos' best tropical rainforest views. You can also bathe and feed the elephants with your kids. As the sanctuary is famed for its ethical way of caring for the elephants, elephant riding and other attractions that involve cruel training of the elephants are not offered there.
4. The Kuang Si Waterfalls, Luang Prabang
If you are traveling during the hot days of October, you are recommended to visit the numerous waterfalls and caves in Laos. The Kuang Si Waterfalls is the most famous of Laos' cascades. Located south of Luang Prabang, you can easily take a tuk tuk to get there from the small city. Falling down from a steep hillside with over 60 vertical meters of cascades, the waterfall area is a popular place for tourists to avoid the summer heat. There are some beautiful hill villages around the falls where you can have a house visit and meet local farmers.
5. Tham Phu Kham Cave and Blue Lagoon, Vang Vieng
As another of the popular tourist towns in Laos, Vang Vieng is rich in natural travel resources, including karst-mountain caves, mountain views and waterfalls, lakes and so on. You have to walk a steep path to the cave interiors, which makes it an ideal route for hiking and trekking lovers. You will be amazed by the inside views of fantastic rock formations and ancient statues of Buddha in the cave. Bangkok and Chiang Mai
In Bangkok, our guide Ann and driver "Mr. Ot" (I don't know how to spell his name) were very friendly and professional. You simply can't underestimate the value of having an English speaking guide to show you around, and a driver with a comfortable, sizeable, air-conditioned van take you from place to place. Ann taught us so much about Thailand's history, food, and religion. Mr. Ot always opened our door with a smile, and had cool towels and ice-cold bottled water for us. More

Our recent time spent in Siem Reap was made even more memorable by our expert guide, Som Piseth. Som was knowledgeable, attentive, flexible and super helpful - we learnt so much about Siem Reap and Cambodia in our 3 days with him. His English was excellent and his knowledge of, and pride in, his country was outstanding. We would highly recommend Som for anyone wanting an excellent guide in Siem Reap! More
